This recital of our Enescu Soirees Online is offered by Austria-based Romanian pianist and composer Paul Cartianu. The young, multi-talented musician will present a program featuring works by Beethoven and Enescu, complemented by one of his latest compositions.

Paul Coriolan Cartianu finished his Masters Studies at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, where he first studied with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling and then with Andreas Weber. Born in 1988 in Romania, Paul started his piano studies at the age of 7. He successfully graduated the "George Enescu" Music High School in June 2007 under the guidance of Prof. Olga Szel and Stela Drăgulin, while also completing a few years of academic and musical education in California, USA, with Maria Demina. In 2007 he was accepted at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music in the studio of John Perry. One year later he successfully entered the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. As laureate of the World Piano Competition in Cincinatti in 2004, Paul Cartianu played at the Carnegie Hall. In 2016, he won the Mozarteum University concerto audition and performed Beethoven's 4th piano concerto with the University Orchestra. Paul deepened his experience with recitals in Romania (Bucharest, Brasov, Miercurea Ciuc), USA (New York, Delaware, Los Angeles), France (Paris), Italy (Rome), Germany (Berlin, Nurnberg). He appeared as soloist with orchestras in USA, Romania, Austria, and Germany and is an experienced chamber musician. In 2013 he performed Cesar Bresgen's "Totentanz nach Hohlbein" with members of the Mozarteum Orchestra, and later that year performed Edward Grieg's Piano Concerto in the opening concert of Young Classic Europe Festival in Passau, Germany. Paul has recently performed Beethoven's fourth Piano Concerto with the Mozarteum University Symphony Orchestra. Specializing in the Mozart solo and chamber repertoire, Paul performs extensively, on piano and harpsichord, under the Orpheus Agentur . Paul Cartianu attended masterclasses with Dina Yoffee, Sergey Maltseev, Aquiles Delle Vigne, Fabio Bidini and Arkadi Zenziper. He has received recognition from the Yamaha Foundation and the International Salzburg Association and would like to express his heartfelt thanks to Sally Orlando for her valuable support.
