An engaging preview of the Bucharest Opera Festival

We are excited to welcome you at the Institute for an engaging preview of the Bucharest Opera Festival in the company of some of Romania’s musical stage more dazzling stars. The event will include a presentation by volcanic conductor Daniel Jinga, the Director of the Bucharest National Opera, who will share highlights of the upcoming season, followed by a screening of the festival’s promotional film, "All Puccini Edition 2024". The evening’s highlight, however, is the recital featuring soprano Iulia Isaev, Bucharest National Opera’s mesmerizing singer, performing a selection of well-loved arias and Romanian works, with the accompaniment of virtuosic Liana Mareș. Meet the Artists

Daniel Jinga completed his studies at the Faculty of Composition, Musicology, and Music Pedagogy at the National University of Music in Bucharest, where he earned a Master's degree in choral conducting and conducting techniques. In 2003, Marin Constantin appointed him as the deputy conductor of the National Chamber Choir "Madrigal." He later founded the "Accoustic" Choir to explore his own repertoire. Daniel Jinga has collaborated with artists from various musical genres and prestigious national and international opera companies. In 2009, he debuted with the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, performing with international artists and exploring contemporary compositions in a symphonic style. In 2012, he became the Choral Master at the Bucharest National Opera. From January 2019 to December 2020, he served as the Artistic Director of the National Opera in Bucharest and was appointed General Director in March 2021.

Iulia Isaev is one of the leading figures of the Romanian school of singing, with a prestigious international artistic career that reached a peak in 2019 with her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, performing the title role in Puccini's Tosca. A graduate of the University of Music in Bucharest under the guidance of Professor Arta Florescu, Iulia distinguished herself during her student years, winning prizes at international competitions such as Loire Atlantique in Nantes, France, George Enescu in Bucharest, and Madama Butterfly in Barcelona, Spain. She subsequently embarked on an intense career, being invited to perform at some of the most prestigious opera houses across Europe, Asia, and the United States, including the Vienna Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Staatsoper Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Oper der Staat Köln, Schwetzingen Schloss Opera Festival, Opernhaus Zurich, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Opéra National de Paris Palais Garnier, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Opéra National de Lorraine Nancy, Opéra National du Rhin Strasbourg, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro La Fenice and Teatro Malibran in Venice, Teatro San Carlo in Lisbon, Greek National Opera House, New National Theatre Tokyo, Bunkamura Hall Tokyo, Seoul Opera House, and the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. Currently, Iulia Isaev is a Senior Lecturer and Doctor at the University of Music in Bucharest and a soloist at the National Opera of Bucharest.

Liana Mareș is a graduate of the Faculty of Musical Performance at the National University of Music in Bucharest, where she studied under Professor Veronica Gaspar, completing her degree in 1998. She also pursued harpsichord studies at the same institution, under Professor Ogneanca Lefterescu. Immediately after graduation, she joined the National Opera of Bucharest, while also collaborating with other prestigious institutions such as the George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest, the Ion Dacian National Operetta Theatre, and the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation. Liana has performed recitals at notable venues including the Romanian Athenaeum, Dalles Hall, Cotroceni Museum, and Peles Castle, as well as concert halls both in Romania and abroad. Her opera accompaniment repertoire includes works by composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Gaetano Donizetti, Georges Bizet, Engelbert Humperdinck, Richard Wagner, Henry Purcell, and Peter Ruzicka. She has also toured France, Greece, and Israel with the artists of the National Opera of Bucharest. Since June 2011, Liana has been a vocal coach, a title granted by the Accademia Teatro alla Scala.
