Capturing Life Stories
Ioana Moldovan is a freelance photojournalist and documentary photographer and the co-founder of the Documentaria.ro. Her photographs were published in renowned international publications, including The New York Times, BBC, Der Spiegel, Libération, ESPN, Al Jazeera English, Huffington Post. By her own confession, telling visual stories represents the meaning of her life, and she hopes that her photographs can help viewers venture into other realms, often quite different from the ones they are used to.
Ioana Moldovan is committed to telling life stories through images, whether they concern people from a Romanian village, soldiers on the Ukrainian front, refugees on their journey to Europe, wounded former combatants competing in sports or actors preparing for roles. She loves being where the action is and has been doing this for over 15 years now.
For Ioana, the actual STUDIO is on the field, where stories unfold and where they get discovered. Only the post-process of the photos happens mostly in what you may call the regular studio, like choosing the right pictures, editing the sequence of frames or writing the captions. Here also she is writing email after email to pitch the story to the press outlets. But above everything else photojournalism means working in the field, and what Ioana loves the most is being constantly among people, getting to know their stories and thus, in a way, becoming part of their lives.
