OUR VENUE
Established in 1969 as the Romanian Library, the Romanian Cultural Institute (RCI) in North America is one of Romania’s oldest cultural diplomacy vehicles. The transformation from a library to a cultural center and, since 2004, a cultural institute has marked almost five decades of development and periodic reinvention.

Transformation over the Years
A Colorful Renewal / Before & After

The radical transformation of our venue has been, from the very beginning, an integral part of our strategy of renewal and reinvention. Starting 2020, in eager expectation that the NYC cultural life will eventually bounce back to its breathtaking effervescence, we thought we could use this forced intermission to prepare to greet our audiences in a very different space, more functional and welcoming. Many thanks to our colleagues in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and A1 Construction team for the support.

The BrâncuÈ™i Gallery
Our BrâncuÅŸi Gallery was inaugurated on September 17, 2021 through an extensive program of renovation and redevelopment of the RCI New York headquarters in Midtown Manhattan. The gallery is engaged in promoting Romanian and Romanian-American artists, offering a unique platform to Romanian visual creativity on New York's overcrowded art scene.

"Wisdom & Reflection", the 55th anniversary murals by Radu Pandele

"Wisdom & Reflection" is a pair of striking murals created in 2024, for the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the Romanian Library/Center/Institute in New York, by Romanian artist Radu Pandele. The two murals are anchored by two female portraits that subtly capture and reflect their surroundings, transforming a conventional rendering into a canvas of abstraction and symbolism.
