About The Event
Join us for the premiere of the 4th episode of our online series “Geographies of Tradition'', which looks at mirroring Romanian and US traditional rituals and customs, and let’s hail together the summer solstice and its associated festivals with a video exploration of the magic of "Sânziene", observed in Romania on June 24, and its American counterparts. Although exact dates vary among different cultures, these holidays primarily fall close to the symbolic start of summer. The celebrations predate Christianity and have existed under different names around the world, highlighting traditions linked to nature, love, and fertility.
Text by Flavia Paula Stoica, museographer at the Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania. Translated into English by Andreea Scridon. Presented by Andreea Scridon. Videography by Dragoș Popa.
A production of the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York and the Ethnographical Museum of Transylvania in Cluj-Napoca.
Don’t miss the premiere on our Facebook, IGTV and YouTube on June 25 at 2 p.m. New York & Toronto time / 11 a.m. Los Angeles & Vancouver time / 9 p.m. Bucharest time. Watch also on our website and other social media accounts anytime later. (Photo source: https://www.promptmedia.ro/)
